Description

I let the fog instruct the fracture. The grid is not a certainty but a proposition—pressurized by brine, rendered mute by the salt’s vanishing. Each copper line is a datum, cut and flooded, not quite reaching resolution. The Uyuni salt—finite, granular—clings in fissures, a residue the kiln could not leach out. What persists is not memory, but mineral subtraction—absence as scar, record as foam left after tide. Atmosphere here is an accomplice and an adversary: the damp delays, the chill encourages slow fracture. I will not speak of loss except as a harbor: engineered, breached, refusing repair. The light moves through each salt inclusion as through mist—opaque, then sharp, then gone. The piece cost me intervals, measured and unmeasured. I held the boundaries, but the salt decided the rest.
